Campground Description

Our park is a great place for a quiet retreat. Individual campsites in the main loop are well separated by trees. Three of the campsites are large drive-through sites. There are also six campsites closer to the playground and beach which are on a large lawn area that are ideal for camping in groups. The beach area was expanded in 2018, complete with beach volleyball

Local Attractions

If you are planning on hosting an indoor event, our park is conveniently located minutes down the road from the Flat Lake Community Hall, right outside a quiet residential subdivision. The Park is also just a 15-minute drive to the Town of St. Paul.

Relaxing

Jul 20, 2021by Sheri Alexander
I enjoyed my visit at Chicken Hill. I was happily surprised to see they had put power in at most of the sites! Added bonus! It was quiet and peaceful. The lake is not the best, and the beach is off the lake so no swimming area, and the water is not great for swimming but for a pleasant and relaxing camping time it was good! Campground hosts were great and very accommodating. Will go back for sure! Lots of saskatoons too!

Fantastic paddling; no pump water

Jul 17, 2021by Anonymous
Beautiful quiet lake for paddling. Lots of waterfowl to keep the birdwatchers happy. Well maintained. New power and new vault toilets. Water pump was in the process of being removed; bring your own water. Please note that site #13 is not on the outside of the loop as shown on the website: it's a roomy but exposed wedge shaped site on the inside of the loop that gets no afternoon shade. Good firewood provided by friendly attendant at a reasonable price. Wish the MD would develop hiking/ski trails through the lovely forest.

#16 Not my favourite site

Jul 4, 2021by Anonymous
Very tight to back a 26’ fifth wheel With the heat the black poplars we’re dripping a sticky sap Got home and had to wash truck, trailer, and anything that was left outdoors Would rather have had an open site not in the bush. Otherwise nice clean park.

It's Okay

Jul 4, 2021by Anonymous
Campground manager was great and really helpful and friendly. Drove around quite a bit asking if we needed any firewood. The campsites are smaller but well kept. Really like the playground but there is no trees or shade anywhere near it; always in the sun. Its advertised as having a water pump but that's its NOT the case. Lake is okay but beach area is- large. Tip: Don't book Campsites 18-22 near the washroom... seems convenient but people from other sites will walk or bike through your site to access the washroom which is really annoying!

Good location, well managed

Jul 4, 2021by Anonymous
Campground is well managed by caretaker who comes around several times a day and is very helpful. Great beach area for kids. On the very hot days we encountered a few leaches and some kids got hives from the water. Also the water pump does not work so there was no water at the campsite. Good lake for boating and kayaking. Clean washrooms and very quiet campsite.

Cute little campground

Jun 21, 2021by karen krawchuk
The powered stalls are a bonus. Not the biggest stalls for all the bigger RV units but I fit in no problem. The water is so clean and safe for the little ones to swim in. The reeds could be cleaned out and the immediate shoreline raked up (but I think Environment has a say in that). The campground attendants were awesome, always checking to make sure my needs were taken care of. Will definitely be back here many more times in the future.

Online booking map/campsite numbers are wrong.

May 26, 2021by Anonymous
Booked two sites 13 & 15 online for the May long weekend. The online map shows the sites beside each other, which is what we wanted. Get to the campground to find out, that site 13 was across the road and down two sites from our other booked site 15. This is not how a campground/booking site should operate. The online booking system should have the correct numbered site, so this doesn’t happen to others. Other than that, the place was clean, quiet and the caretakers were great when we required firewood.

M.D. CAMPGROUND REGULATIONS DURING COVID-19

As we move into the second stage of resuming business in Alberta, and in order to keep our campers and staff safe and healthy as possible during the global pandemic, there have been a number of changes to our campground regulations.

Following Alberta Health Services,  all Municipal District of Bonnyville owned/operated campgrounds will be implementing changes, this includes opening up tent sites, outhouses, fish cleaning stands, beaches, and day use areas. Playgrounds are open for use, however not sanitized. All of these facilities are “use at your own risk”. Outhouses will be sanitized or cleaned as per provincial guidelines.

Campers will be responsible for their own water and sewer services. Our caretakers will have a list of contractors who will be able to fill up your water tanks and pump out your grey water.

  • If you aren’t feeling well, please stay home.
  • Campers are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer.
  • Site-to-site visits are discouraged, unless the site is occupied by immediate family members or cohort family as recommended by the Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health.
  • M.D. firewood sales will be available. Only credit or debit will be accepted as payment.
  • M.D. campgrounds will not be accepting cash or cheques until further notice.

As always, it is up to you, our visitors, to camp responsibly during this time of COVID-19. You must maintain a social distance of at least six feet at all times, including when gathering outside in groups larger than 10 people. Please remember to wash or sanitize your hands frequently.

The above are based on provincial guidelines, and the M.D. appreciates the cooperation of our campers in following these regulations. Failure to do so, could result in your expulsion from the campground.

Updates to these regulations will be communicated through our website and our Facebook page.
