Campground Description

Our park is a tranquil place, especially while trekking our hiking trails through mature coniferous forests and enjoying the natural beauty of the lake. Our individual campsites all have 30-Amp power, a campfire pit, and picnic table. Most sites are semi-private and are separated by natural foliage including large conifers. A few sites are joined for those who are camping as a group. Four large sites near the lookout are pull-throughs. The parking area also serves as over flow for oversized units (please call the campground to inquire about availability of overflow sites) and boat trailers. The playground is popular for all ages. The picnic shelter has power, and can be rented for events such as birthdays. There are coin-op showers (renovated in 2018) and laundry. Firewood and potable water available.

Local Attractions

Our park is located on the beautiful shores of Cold Lake, on the north edge of the City of Cold Lake. The park is just a few minutes’ walk from the city’s Kinosoo Beach, which has a splash - park, concession, and hosts several community events throughout the summer. There are lots of opportunities to enjoy all the conveniences you would expect in a city just a few minutes drive from the park. If you wish to launch a boat we are close to the Cold Lake Marina, which has a well maintained boat launch and wharf.

Great campground!!! Had lake front site which was awesome for the hot week we had. Campsites were very clean upon arrival. And the managers were there to help if you needed anything. Our site was big but also very private. Would definitely recommend camping in this hidden treasure

Satisfied

We’re happy with our stay but people with large units such as motorhomes that arrive and leave their unit running for 4 hours should be put in the overflow area. Not very considerate for the rest of us especially when they sat inside.

Pleasure to stay

Awesome

As usual and despite the weather and the white fluff blowing around, we enjoyed our stay. I understand the co-vid issues and therefore no showers in use, but it would have been nice to have hot water in the washroom.

Quiet campground

Stayed in site 23 with our 35ft 5th wheel. Site was clean, shallow but wide. Barely enough depth for our trailer. Sites are power only with limited access to fresh water and no onsite dump station. The campground staff were very helpful and courteous. Our area was very quiet and peaceful with a good view of the lake. This is a great pick if you want good views and can camp with limited services.

Excellent management!!!!

Check-in and Check-out

Upon arrival, please check-in at the office at the entrance of the park.  Our office building is closed to the public,  however you can ring the bell and we will come out to see you!  Our hours to serve you are 10:00am - 8:00pm.  Check-in BEGINS at 2:00 pm on the day of your arrival.  Check-out is 12:00 noon on your departure day.   Please do not arrive prior to 2pm as we are utilizing this time to prepare our sites for your arrival.

Cancellation and Changes Policy

In the event you need to cancel or change your reservation, please provide at least 72 hours notice prior to the check-in time of 2:00pm.  The normal one night penalty usually imposed by the MD of Bonnyville is being waived this year in light of COVID-19, however the $5.25 booking fee remains non-refundable.

Failure to provide at least 72 hours notice will result in the loss of your entire camping fees.

If you must cancel or change a reservation, please email us with your request at coldlake@md.bonnyville.ab.ca or you may call us at 780-639-4121 and leave us a message.  Unfortunately there are no refunds for inclement weather, late arrivals, or early departures - there will be no exceptions for any circumstance.

General Information and Regulations

*No more than (1) ONE RV unit per site.  (1) small tent for minor children permitted.  Maximum occupancy is (6) six adults.

*TENTING RULES -  a maximum of (2) TWO tents per site are permitted.  Maximum occupancy is (6) six adults.

*The outhouses and washrooms are now open, however the showers and laundry facilities will remain closed.  Washrooms will be maintained by additional MD of Bonnyville staff as per AHS recommendations, but are for use at your own risk and are accessed with a code entry.  Please do not share these codes with anyone including your visitors as they are for currently registered campers only.  Please have your guests use the outhouses.

*You are in bear country! Please use dumpsters for your garbage, not the fire pits!  Keep your site free of garbage and put all food, beverages and coolers away at night AND when you are away from your site.  Upon check-out please ensure your site is free of garbage, cigarette butts and dog waste.  Sites left in unacceptable conditions will result in $250 fines issued by the MD of Bonnyville.

*The office remains closed so please refrain from going in there.  If you need to get a hold of us please knock or ring the bell and we'll come out to see you.  If we're not there, we'll be back soon so try again!  You can also call us between the hours of 10am and 8pm and be sure to leave a message. 780-639-4121

*The playground is now open but be aware that it is not sanitized and is for use at your own risk.  The beach and green spaces are also now open to the public so of course, be mindful of social distancing both when you're out and about and on your site.

*Please do not park on the roadways or grassed areas, and there is a maximum of 2 vehicles per site.  In addition to the space problem it creates for emergency vehicles and other campers parking their units, it impedes our ability for grounds maintenance.  Additional vehicles must be parked in the center parking lot or overflow lot, and boats and their trailers must be parked in the overflow parking at the far end only.  Please have your visitors park in the parking lots!

*Our firewood hours are 4-5pm and 7-8pm.  We cannot accept cash this year so you'll need to pay with a card and you'll do that up at the compound.  If you don't see anyone up there,  just give us a call and we'll get there right away.  One load is $12 for about 20 logs, delivery is not available.

*Dogs must be on a leash at ALL times (yes, even yours) and are not allowed on the beach.  Doggy bags are found through-out the park for your convenience - please use them!

*Quiet hours are from 11pm to 7am so please turn off outside music and refrain from loud talking/yelling and noise during this time.  Your neighbours will appreciate it!!

The MD reserves the right to terminate the stay of guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable or interferes with the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of the park.  By not abiding by these regulations your stay is subject to termination and if necessary is enforced by Public Safety and no refunds are given.

M.D. CAMPGROUND REGULATIONS DURING COVID-19

As we move into the second stage of resuming business in Alberta, and in order to keep our campers and staff safe and healthy as possible during the global pandemic, there have been a number of changes to our campground regulations.

Following Province of Alberta guidelines, as of June 19, 2020, all Municipal District of Bonnyville owned/operated campgrounds will be implementing changes based around Phase II. This includes opening up group areas, tent sites, washrooms/outhouses, fish cleaning stands, picnic shelters, beaches, and day use areas. Playgrounds were reopened in May. All of these facilities are “use at your own risk”. Washrooms and outhouses will be sanitized or cleaned as per provincial guidelines.

Campers will be responsible for their own water and sewer services. Our caretakers will have a list of contractors who will be able to fill up your water tanks and pump out your grey water.

  • If you aren’t feeling well, please stay home.
  • Group camping sites will be available to reserve. When booking, please keep in mind the need to continue to practice social distancing (six feet or two metres apart).
  • Campers are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer.
  • Site-to-site visits are discouraged, unless the site is occupied by immediate family members or cohort family as recommended by the Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health.
  • M.D. firewood sales will be available. Only credit or debit will be accepted as payment.
  • M.D. campgrounds will not be accepting cash or cheques until further notice.

As always, it is up to you, our visitors, to camp responsibly during this time of COVID-19. You must maintain a social distance of at least six feet at all times, including when gathering outside in groups larger than 100 people. Please remember to wash or sanitize your hands frequently.

The above are based on provincial guidelines, and the M.D. appreciates the cooperation of our campers in following these regulations. Failure to do so, could result in your expulsion from the campground.

Updates to these regulations will be communicated through our website and our Facebook page.
