#Wild About Canada
Alberta is a boundless showcase of broad, golden farmlands under bright blue skies, with bordered by rolling foothills in the west and deep river canyons in the east. There are many quiet campgrounds dotted lakes, rivers and marshes of colourful wildlife. In the towns you’ll find friendly people, small museums, and lots of Alberta-made ice-cream! Southern Alberta has an incredible variety of terrain for camping enthusiasts. Perhaps originating from Alberta’s longstanding ranching history (which of course has tied into the world-famous Calgary Stampede), the people here have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, resulting in lots of private camping options.

Island lake is a serene lake located just a few miles northeast of Hanmore lake, with its 9 campsites this campground is the perfect choice for a quiet getaway or load up the ATV's(allowed at island lake campground only) and take a tour down to the waters edge as the water level has dropped over many years and is difficult to access via vehicle as the road is not maintained. Fishing is great here if you can haul a kayak/canoe/inflatable boat here as there is no longer a boat launch available due to the water level receding. Don't forget to pack your bear spray as this area is common for bears as its surrounded with blueberries, wild raspberries etc.
