Welcome to the Island on the Prairies and the Portage Ex Campground. Relax and enjoy our picturesque grounds, beautiful adjacent Island Park, take in a round of golf at neighbouring Portage Golf Club or cool off on a hot summers day at Splash Island.

Splash Island - The arrival of summers brings the opening of Splash Island, an outdoor water park offering two giant waterslides, a doublewide kiddie slide, mini geysers and a therapeutic “bubbler” bench. With a zero-depth beach style entry, the park presents an aquatic experience that is fun and accessible for all ages and ability levels. From June to September, public swimming is available seven days per week, weather permitting. 204-239-8399

Just past Splash Island is our beautiful Island Park, complete with a kid’s play park, with play structures, swings, benches (A great place for kids to expend energy and have a great time), tennis courts, deer enclosure and beautiful grounds to enjoy. 

Island Park’s Arboretum stands as a four-acre outdoor venue to learn about more than 200 species of plant life and celebrate the diverse horticulture and forestry that is vital to the prairies. A wheelchair accessible pathway weaves through a series of information stations that identify the natural ecosystem of central Manitoba.

Fort la Reine Museum - Within minutes of your arrival, you will recognize why Fort la Reine Museum holds distinction in the Province as a Manitoba Star Attraction. The site celebrates the heritage of the Canadian prairies and the history of both the City and Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie. Visitors find themselves immersed in another time in an environment that includes 23 different buildings and thousands of artifacts to discover. The five-acre site takes you into the lives of the early settlers – their homes, their schools, and their business and trade. The museum also pays homage to the nationwide development of rail and features ‘Le Rideau’, the personal business rail car of Sir William Van Horne. They also have an Escape Room! 204-857-3259

World’s Largest Coca-Cola Can - Among the unique structures that catch your eye as you visit Portage la Prairie is the towering presence of what has come to be identified as the World’s Largest Coca-Cola Can. Located on the SW corner of the parking lot at Canad Inns hotel, the 85-foot (26 metre) can was first constructed as a water tower by Manitoba Iron Works Limited in Winnipeg in 1905. The structure was relocated to the present site, where it was re-branded by the Coca Cola Company and remains a popular curiosity for travelers annually.

Central Plains RecPlex - Southport, located 3 kilometers south of the City, is a not-for-profit airport, property management and development company. With a focus to be a world-class business center balanced with lifestyle, wellness, and recreation facilities, the Central Plains RecPlex features a 9 meter rock climbing wall, 110 m indoor track, fitness area, upgraded gymnasium access and remodeled change rooms. 204-428-6050

Southport is also home to a nine-hole golf course and restaurant, plus beautiful green spaces which complement the aviation and aerospace training facilities, research and development of new products, light manufacturing and educational institutions which contribute to Southport’s daily activities. Delta Beach - just 25 kms directly north of the Portage on Hwy 240, on the northern fringe of the Municipality, the southern shore of Lake Manitoba rolls in on Delta Beach. Delta Beach is a popular destination for day trippers. Enjoy the sand and water for a day! Did you know, Delta Beach is one of Canada’s thirteen largest lakes and rates as the 33rd largest freshwater lake in the world? It’s worth a visit.

 Delta Marsh – while at Delta Beach, check out a 30 kilometer stretch of wetlands just inland from Lake Manitoba is another popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Delta Marsh is an active wildlife breeding and migration staging area for a wide array of waterfowl and songbirds. This brings bird watchers from all around the world to get up close to some of the indigenous and seasonal flocks.

Considered by enthusiasts to be challenging but enjoyable, the Portage Golf Club is home to an 18-hole lakeside course was first established in 1922. With a fully licensed clubhouse, on site pro shop and offering rental carts and clubs, you’re sure to test your skills on this Par 70, 6355-yard course. Crescent Walking Path -The Crescent Walking Path offers both a scenic thoroughfare for walking and biking along the north shore of Crescent Lake. While on the path you may encounter beautiful views of Canada Geese, Pelicans, Loons and Ducks on Crescent Lake. It is also a great fitness and wellness route, with outdoor equipment scattered down the length. The 5.2 km walkway is paved, illuminated and accessible 24 hours per day throughout the year.

Campground Rules and Regulations

  • All vehicles and campers are to be pre-registered and prepaid. 
  • Reservations are to be made online. You can find the link to register at http://portageex.com/main/camping/ under the Camping tab. 
  • If you are making more than one reservation in your name, you will need to contact the campground to provide the contact information for the parties that will be occupying the other sites. You can email the information to info@portageex.com, stating your confirmation #.  If you are unable to email, you can call the office. 
  • Please proceed directly to your designated campsite. Be aware of pedestrians, children and animals at all times. 
  • Campsites are only guaranteed for camping nights that are paid for. 
  • CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS: Camping is an outdoor experience. Therefore, no refunds will be approved for discomforts of nature including rain. snow, winds, temperature changes and insects. There are no refunds for late arrivals or early departures.  Reasonable requests for medical reasons or emergencies will be considered. You must contact the office directly. 
  • Refund Structure:  Camping is an outdoor experience. Therefore, no refunds will be approved for discomforts of nature including rain. snow, winds, temperature changes and insects. There are no refunds for late arrivals or early departures.  Reasonable requests for medical reasons or emergencies will be considered. You must contact the office directly. Full refunds, less the registration fee ($5.00 + GST) will be given for cancellations of 3 or more days before your arrival date. Any cancellations within 3 days of arrival will result in loss of first night camping fee plus the registration fee. If you don’t cancel your reservation, or don’t show up, all fees are forfeited. A ‘No Show’ is a reservation that has not been claimed by 12:00 midnight on the arrival date. A ‘no show’ will result in the reservation being cancelled with no refund and the campsite will become available to a new camper. 
  • Campers evicted from the grounds for any reason in violation to the rules and regulations set out are not eligible for reimbursement of any fees. 
  • Any foul and/or abusive language or threatening behavior towards staff and volunteers WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Violation of this WILL result in expulsion from the campgrounds and grounds of the Portage Industrial Exhibition Association. 
  • Check in time will be 3:00 PM. Check out time will be 1:00 PM. 
  • Quiet time is from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. All electronic devices are to be turned off during quiet hours so as not to disturb other campers.
  • Alcohol may be consumed in a registered campsite only. Alcohol is NOT PERMITTED outside of your campsite. Public drunkenness and rowdiness will not be tolerated and will result in police action and immediate eviction. 
  • All rowdy behavior and excessive noise is prohibited. 
  • Smoking is prohibited in the washroom/shower facilities. 
  • Liquid and solid waste MUST be disposed of at the Dump Station located to the east of the campgrounds behind Stride Place. Pouring waste water or dumping sewage underneath trailers or anywhere in the campgrounds is prohibited. 
  • The registrant is responsible for the conduct and behavior of their family and guests.
  • No children under 18 years of age may camp in a trailer by themselves. Parents and guardians are responsible for their children and any damages they may cause. 
  • A maximum of TWO pieces of shelter equipment are allowed per campsite, where SPACE PERMITS. Only ONE of which may be a travel trailer, tent trailer, camper van, motor home or self-propelled camping unit. 
  • TWO vehicles per campsite are permitted WHERE SPACE PERMITS. Any additional vehicles permitted per campsite must be approved by General Manager or Campground Host. 
  • Fireworks, sparklers or caps are prohibited. 
  • Campfires are only allowed in the fire boxes provided at each campsite. Firewood must fit inside the fire boxes. DO NOT burn garbage in the fire boxes or put garbage in to the fire boxes at any time, or when you leave. DO NOT START fires with gasoline or camping fuel. Keep flammable materials away from campfires. Campfires should not exceed 0.6 metres (2 feet) in height. Be sure your campfire is completely extinguished before leaving your site or retiring for the evening. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING FIRES UNDER CONTROL. 
  • Obey restrictions on fires. Fires may be limited or prohibited at certain times. 
  • Do not damage, cut or remove trees or bushes from the campgrounds or the surrounding grounds. Any damage done is an offence and can be charged as such. 
  • Campsites must be kept clean and tidy at all times. Garbage and recycle bins are located on the grounds for your use. Please pick up after yourselves. PLEASE DO NOT LITTER ANYWHERE on our grounds or our neighbour’s properties. 
  • PETS: Pets must be on a leash not exceeding meters (6 feet) and must be under control at all times, even within your campsite. Pets are not to make excessive noise or disturb other persons. Poop and scoop applies at all times.
  • The Portage Industrial Exhibition Association and PortageEx Campgrounds assumes no responsibility whatsoever for personal injury or loss/damage to vehicles or personal property of any kind.
